we celebrated our favorite two year old last weekend with a Mickey Mouse themed party! I finished most of the decorations after the kids had gone to bed and the next morning I woke up to Brady slapping me on the face screaming “MOOM! COMERR (come here)! MickeyyyyyyyyNOUSE!!!” he was SO excited, which made my heart pretty much burst with happiness to see such joy in my son’s eyes.
as always I recruited Jordan to help me with the heavy lifting in the decor department. he always does such a great job in helping me, and this time he built a backdrop of bead board we picked up from Home Depot and I decorated it with a long scrap banner thanks to the handy work of pearl + jane! she and I have been working on parties together for the last five years and I cannot express how thankful I am to have such a creative friend! I can tell her my “vision” and she makes it happen without skipping a beat. the Mickey Mouse focal point came to me the day before the party while standing in the middle of hobby lobby searching for poster board to draw a giant mickey face. I strolled passed the styrofoam balls and saw a couple large half circles..and a foam wreath! Okay, now thats a MICKEY FACE! I stood there googling things like “can I spray paint Styrofoam?” and apparently if you get the wrong kind of paint it can melt the foam, which is the last thing I needed to happen at 9pm at night the day before the party! thankfully hobby lobby had the right kind (I used this one HERE!) we served a “hot diggity dog bar” and included all the fixins for hot dogs along with mini hamburger sliders and hot ham melts I picked up from Market Street! I made chili and queso for the mini crock pots and warmed the dogs and buns in the retro hot dog steamer I randomly saw at Home Depot, of all places! Teresa made the most delicious pasta salad with pesto, tomatoes, and chunks of mozzarella! find the recipe HERE! sauerkraut :: pickled jalapeños :: onions :: ketchup :: BBQ sauce :: mustard :: relish :: chili :: queso chick fil a sweet tea + water at the beverage station inside and outside we had a couple metal buckets o’beer for the adults and sparkling water and juice boxes for the kiddos. Amanda Campbell of Campbell’s Cookies did an AMAZING job on the custom Mickey themed cookie order I requested of her. SO pleased with how these turned out! they tasted yummy, too! a rather sad looking cake..I could not keep it from sagging! but it was cute otherwise 🙂 cake and cupcakes came from Market Street this year! and the perfect cake topper, again from pearl + jane! my favorite detail of the entire party.. the $7 digital print cupcake topper in the face of Brady with Mickey Ears- I CANNOT handle it! I bought slim craft sticks from hobby lobby and printed these on card stock! so easy and so dang cute! hat (use code :: MASSEYA15)/ tee (use code :: MASSEYA)/ cardigan / jeans Baylor in Mickey ears. I’m done. we had jump city dallas bring one of her large bounce house units- I called and told her I wanted anything she had that was Mickey Mouse and this giant thing showed up on Saturday morning! it was a HUGE hit! Jolie has been asking for a Mickey Mouse party for her birthday just so we can have this at the house again! you could find Brady with a cookie in his hand the entire party. I couldn’t get him to eat cake or a cupcake but he sure did love those cookies 🙂 he is so dang cute- happy birthday to my precious, mickey loving boy!!
